Abdominal Scan

Abdominal Scan

What is an Abdominal Scan?

An abdominal scan is usually requested for pain in the abdomen, distention of the abdomen or any disease of the liver, spleen and kidneys is clinically doubted. If the patient has got a history of cancer anywhere in the body, an ultrasound of the abdomen is done to exclude any extension of disease in the abdominal organs.

The Procedure

The time taken for a procedure is 15 to 25 minutes, and if you are to do an abdominal scan for evaluating the gall bladder you will be asked to do overnight fasting. It is always a good idea to book your appointment at least a day in advance.

Advantages

Provides a clearer picture of the liver, gall bladder, pancreas, kidneys, and the urinary bladder

It can also detect any fluid collection in the abdomen

It is completely painless and does not use any sort of radiation

No risk or complications are involved because the procedure is non-invasive
