Fetal Echocardiogram

Fetal Echocardiogram

What is Fetal Echocardiogram?

Fetal Echocardiogram performs a detailed scan of the fetus’ heart. The scan is used to detect any abnormalities of the heart in the fetus and to suggest any necessary precautions. The scan is performed during 18 to 20 weeks of pregnancy but thanks to the latest advancements and modern technology, few major abnormalities of the heart can be detected even at a 12-weeks scan.

The Procedure

The test does not require you to have a full bladder or any particular preparations. It can take anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours for conducting a fetal echocardiogram depending on the position of the baby.

Advantages

Helps understand heart problems in their unborn baby and prepares them psychologically during delivery time.

Prenatal diagnosis of congenital heart disease (CHD) allows the baby to have quick access to medical and surgical intervention after birth.

Very high or very low heart rates can be treated inside the uterus itself.

Reduce the risk of fetal birth defects.

Early recognition of abnormalities

Understand the problem, manage pregnancy and prepare yourself for baby care after delivery.

Non-invasive

Better examination of the structure and function of the heart
